“Our mission is to provide safe shelter, and to offer programs and services in support of the hopes and needs of people dealing with life issues.”
Cambridge Shelter Corporation (CSC) was incorporated in 2000, to meet the needs of a growing population of individuals experiencing homelessness in Cambridge. CSC grew out of the church-based Out of the Cold winter shelter program that ran successfully for eight years in seven local churches. In 2005, Cambridge Shelter Corporation opened The Bridges, a year round emergency shelter/supportive housing facility located at 26 Simcoe Street. The Bridges houses many programs and services:
· 64 bed emergency shelter for men and women experiencing homelessness
· 20 bachelor apartments to provide supported second stage housing
· Daily drop-in centre offering a wide variety of services and programs to assist clients in moving forward
Cambridge Shelter Corporation is a charitable, United Way partner agency and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is audited annually and accredited by the Imagine Canada Standards Program.
Cambridge Shelter Corporation grew out of the “Out of the Cold” program that ran in seven local churches in winter. The Bridges, a facility that now includes a year round emergency shelter, a drop-in centre, and 20 affordable, transitional, bachelor apartments opened in 2005. It is designed to offer a continuum of services and support, and to assist clients in addressing the issues facing them to move forward towards permanent, appropriate, affordable housing.
